Nimbus 4D 7m

The scale sailplane Nimbus 4D in 1:3.75 scale with the 7.06m wing span is the top remote control sailplane in its category. This two seater looks just like the real sailplane, especially when flying in low altitudes at high speed. Maneuvering and correct adjustment of the split flaps along the airfoil require a considerable experience from its owner. The size of the sailplane and its performance allow for flying in high altitudes and making long vaults between upcurrents. Landing in high vegetation is dangerous considering the large wing span. The model can be hand launched upcurrent due to a slope.

The fuselage of Nimbus 4D is made of fiberglass. The cockpit is equipped with two moulded seats and the canopy opens to the side just like in the real sailplane. If the customer wishes, the cockpit can be custom equipped with seat covers, upholstered side panels, control levers, a control panel, microphone and map.

The four piece wing is a composite of Styrofoam, fiberglass and obechi veneer, all covered with white iron-on ORACOVER foil. If the customer wishes, the wing can be lacquered instead of the foil finish. The wing has a carbon spar to ensure firmness and flexibility of the wing while preserving the look of the true scale plane. The parts of the wing are attached to each other with a round steel bar of 12mm diameter. The wing is connected to the fuselage by a round steel bar of 18mm diameter and secured in place by two mono blocks. Divisibility of the wing is an advantage during storage and transportation. The wing has split flaps.

The Nimbus 4D 7m is equipped with Schempp-Hirth air brakes, retractable landing gear and an airtow release mechanism. The model has the original true scale sailplane livery applied. If the customer wishes, the colour of the standard decals can be changed or these can be completely custom made.

The scale model Nimbus 4D with 7m wing span can be fitted with an Elicker’s 18 inch retractable pylon. The model can have the fuselage adjusted, pre-cut and fixed with a door, i.e., ready for the installation of the retractable unit or, it can have the pylon completely installed by us.

With basic equipment, the Nimbus 4D 7m requires ten (10) servos, i.e., elevator, rudder, ailerons, split flaps, airbrakes, retractable landing gear and airtow release mechanism. If modified as an M version, the model requires an additional servo for the retractable pylon.
